Job Summary

Essential Responsibilities

• Review work to be performed in advance with Custodian II/III to ensure understanding of work‑related risks and proper mitigation to ensure safety.
• Assist or perform custodial services by performing simple duties of lesser skill.
• Assist with assembling materials and tools for work to be performed.
• With guidance, prepare work areas for work to be performed, and clean work areas, machines, and equipment following work completion.
• With guidance, assist other Custodians in performing a wide range of custodial services.
• With direction, may independently perform general custodial services.
• Attend all technical and safety‑training, including on‑the‑job training, use all PPE, and adhere to safety guidance.
• Review work to be performed in advance with Custodians II or III to ensure understanding of work‑related risks and proper mitigations to ensure safety.
• Report all safety hazards to supervisor and/or immediately correct them if able.
• Participate in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
• Adhere to all employee handbook protocols and policies, including mandatory reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

• Often requires lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects over 50 pounds.
• Often requires walking/standing, bending/crouching/reaching, and at times sitting.
• Manual dexterity and strength to work with hand tools.

Working Conditions

• Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and contact with hazardous materials, dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.
• Often work outdoors and indoors.
• Works in partnership and as a team with other Custodians in performing a wide range of custodial services.
• Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday in the afternoons and evenings, but morning or weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
