Job summary

YMCA is seeking an Assistant Teacher for our Preschool program in Hartford, CT. Under supervision, you will support the Head Teacher in daily activities and ensure a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

You will assist in curriculum delivery, manage attendance and meal counts, and help with safety drills and documentation. This on-call role supports a diverse community and promotes the YMCA core values.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ECE development and Connecticut ELD standards.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Teacher in daily classroom supervision including outdoor play.
• Promote inclusive, anti-racist culture at the Y.
• Assist in curriculum development and timely submission of forms and reports.
• Use knowledge of child development to plan for individual children.
• Supervise parents and classroom visitors.
• Assist in drills and safety procedures (fire, lockdown, etc).
• Prepare materials and maintain attendance and lunch counts for CACFP/USDA.
• Follow food handling, sanitation and OSHA procedures.
• Maintain an Anecdotal Log for each child enrolled.
• Maintain neat, orderly classroom and storage areas.
• Uphold YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
• Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
• Supervise a group of children and coordinate with staff.
• Follow center policies and state regulations.
