Job summary

YMC in Indian Valley, Ellington, CT is seeking a Substitute Assistant Teacher on call for the Preschool program. Under the Head Teacher, you assist in daily supervision, support developmentally appropriate activities, supervise outdoor play, and help maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Ideal candidates are warm, nurturing, with knowledge of early childhood development; bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ECE development and Connecticut standards.
• Warm and nurturing personality.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• This position may access PHI to perform duties.
• Work in a Pre-school classroom; may interact with children who have disabilities.
• Outdoor playground may lack handicapped access; comply with safety rules.
• Comply with Part 407 licensing standards and ECE guidelines.
• Maintain good personal hygiene and health suitable for childcare.

Responsibilities

• Assist Teacher in daily classroom supervision including outdoor play.
• Promote inclusive, anti-racist practices and a respectful culture.
• Assist in creating and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculums.
• Use knowledge of child development to plan for individual children.
• Supervise parents and other classroom visitors.
• Assist in emergency drills and safety procedures.
• Prepare materials, maintain attendance and CACFP/USDA reports.
• Follow food handling, sanitation, and OSHA procedures.
• Maintain Anecdotal Log for each child enrolled.
• Keep classroom materials neat, orderly and safe.
• Uphold YMCA values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
• Maintain confidentiality of child and family information.
• Supervise a group of children and support classroom routines.
• Assist in maintaining center policies and NAEYC/OEC standards.
• Perform other duties as required.
