Job summary

Western Carolina Surgery Center is seeking a dedicated PreOp PACU RN for a full-time position at our outpatient facility. The role involves thorough preoperative assessments, patient education on procedures and recovery, and safe medication administration under physician orders.

You will support infection control, IV management, and collaborate closely with the surgical team to ensure smooth preoperative flow.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing.
  • Active RN license in the state.
  • BLS and ACLS Required, PALS if required by the center.
  • 2 years of experience in PACU or Critical Care preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions based on nursing judgment.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet patient needs.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

Responsibilities

  • Preoperative duties: assess patients, educate on surgical process and recovery, administer meds per physician orders, maintain infection control, manage IV lines, collaborate with surgical team.
  • Postoperative duties: monitor PACU patients, manage pain and meds, assess for complications, document observations and responses, plan discharge with team.
  • Discharge planning: ensure readiness for discharge and provide instructions.

Western Carolina Surgery Center is hiring a FT PreOp PACU RN!

Western Carolina Surgery Center is a patient-focused ambulatory surgery center dedicated to delivering high-quality outpatient surgical care through advanced technology, clinical excellence, and a collaborative team environment. Accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the center features a state-of-the-art facility with one operating room and three treatment rooms, supporting a variety of specialties including Orthopedics, Spine Surgery, Podiatry, ENT, and Ophthalmology. PreOp PACU RN at Western Carolina Surgery Center:

Preoperative Duties:

  1. Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to collect patient medical histories, vital signs, and current medications.
  2. Patient Education: Educate patients and their families on the surgical process, postoperative care instructions, and any necessary preparations.
  3. Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications, including preoperative sedatives and antibiotics, in accordance with physician orders and best practices.
  4. Infection Control: Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols to minimize the risk of surgical site infections.
  5. IV Line Management: Establish and maintain intravenous (IV) lines as required, and monitor fluid and electrolyte balance.
  6. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth flow of preoperative preparations.

Postoperative Duties:

  1. Recovery Care: Provide postoperative care to patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), monitoring vital signs, pain levels, and overall well-being.
  2. Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' comfort and safety, managing pain and addressing any immediate postoperative concerns.
  3. Assessment: Continuously assess patients for signs of complications or adverse reactions, taking prompt action as needed.
  4. Medication Management: Administer postoperative medications, including pain management and antiemetics, while closely monitoring their effects.
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting all care provided, observations, and patient responses.
  6. Discharge Planning: Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are ready for discharge and providing discharge instructions.
Additional Job Duty:
  1. Performs circulating and/or scrub responsibilities as needed to support surgical procedures and ensure efficient patient care and operating room workflow.
