Job summary

WHC Energy Services, LLC in The Woodlands, TX seeks a Preconstruction Manager to lead the engineering design and preconstruction planning for utility-scale solar PV and energy storage projects. You will drive due diligence, cost estimates, schedules, and design reviews to ensure high performance and reliability.

The role requires 3–5 years of solar project leadership, strong collaboration across internal and external teams, and travel as needed to support project development and execution.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field (advanced degree or PMP preferred).
• 3–5 years of progressive experience in utility-scale solar PV project management, engineering, or development.
• Proven track record of leading design and execution of large-scale solar PV projects from concept to commissioning.
• Ability to review, execute, and manage sub-contracts and service agreements with vendors and suppliers.
• Deep technical expertise in solar PV system design and optimization, energy modeling (PVSyst), interconnection, SCADA design, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong project leadership, including managing multidisciplinary teams, budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Lead the detailed design and engineering of large-scale solar PV systems for performance, reliability and cost-efficiency.
• Oversee site layouts, civil/structural/electrical base designs, interconnection studies, and preconstruction planning.
• Lead internal and external design and constructability review meetings.
• Serve as SME on utility-scale solar PV and BESS, guiding teams through development and execution.
• Collaborate to develop preliminary designs, cost estimates, and project schedules for client RFPs.
• Lead early-stage due diligence, feasibility, value engineering, and execution strategies.
• Support handoff from preconstruction to construction with fully vetted designs.
• Coordinate with business development, commercial teams, and clients to ensure feasibility and alignment with proposals.
• Oversee risk management, vendor/equipment selection reviews, and ensure contractual and regulatory compliance.
• Drive process improvements and engineering standards to enhance capabilities.
