Job summary

Powell Global Services in Houston, TX is seeking an Electrical Switchgear Assembly Technician to build and assemble switchgear and breaker units per engineering drawings and customer specifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• 2–4 years in manufacturing; experience assembling medium-to-large metal boxes/enclosures or electrical switchgear preferred.
• Fluent with tape-measure reading and conversions (fraction/decimal; metric/imperial).
• Basic English communication (written and verbal).
• Proficient with a range of hand and power tools.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components for switchgear/breaker units to drawings and customer specifications using master copy, spec sheet, front elevation, and WO files.
• Use and maintain hand/power tools; perform basic tool upkeep.
• Execute in-process inspections; follow standard work to protect product quality and flag risk.
• Identify and track part shortages.
• Complete ship-prep activities, including splitting gear.
• Support root-cause analysis on engineering changes and help resolve discrepancies.
• Assist a small team as directed by the lead assembler and/or supervisor.
• Perform final in-process inspections and mechanical adjustments for switchgear.
• Promote a strong safety culture; attend all safety meetings and keep the area clean and organized.
