Job summary

Smiths Group in Baton Rouge is seeking a CNC Programmer/Operator with solid machining experience to set up, program and operate mills and lathes. You will read blueprints, select tools, and verify part dimensions to ensure conformance to specifications.

Collaborating with supervisors and maintaining a safe, organized work area, you will perform quality checks, record labor and time accurately, and adapt to instructions for various materials in a fast-paced shop environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with technical schooling and machinist knowledge.
• Minimum 3 years CNC programming & operating experience.
• Ability to read and interpret machine drawings; perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

• Set up, write programs, and edit CNC machining operations for mills and lathes.
• Operate CNC machine tools and monitor processes to ensure tolerances within .0003 inches.
• Inspect finished parts using micrometers, bore gauges, venire calipers, or other measuring tools to verify conformance.
• Follow safety policies and document labor and time for tasks performed.
