Job summary

Portland Public Schools in Portland, ME seeks a Pre-K Special Education Dedicated Substitute for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time on-site role provides daily coverage across Pre-K classrooms, supporting students with disabilities and implementing planned lessons in early childhood settings.

The substitute collaborates with certified staff, maintains routines, and adapts to diverse classroom needs, including ECSE and inclusive settings.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of college education
• Preferred Bachelor's degree
• Experience working with young children, preferably in early childhood or special education settings

Responsibilities

• Provide daily classroom coverage across Pre-K settings as assigned
• Implement teacher-developed lesson plans and support developmentally appropriate, play-based learning
• Support students with IEPs, including accommodations, goals, and behavior supports
• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and positive behavior interventions
• Deliver individualized and small group support under the direction of certified staff
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, education technicians, and related service providers
• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
• Provide extended coverage in a single classroom when needed to ensure continuity for students
