Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW: Pre‑K Special Ed Education Technician III (Full Time) – Multiple Openings District‑wide.

We are seeking several Pre‑K Special Ed Education Technicians to provide dedicated classroom support to Pre‑K programs at various elementary schools—East End, Lyseth, Presumpscot, Reiche, Rowe, Talbot—as well as one of our partner sites, Catherine Morrill Day Nursery.

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience and knowledge of early childhood curriculum, strategies, and classroom management. The candidate will support the classroom teacher in building student school readiness by helping to create a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment. A working knowledge of the Maine Early Learning Development Standards and experience with Pre‑K for ME curricula, Teaching Strategies Gold, and Second Step curriculum are preferred.

The candidate should have a passion for working with young children, bring an equity‑oriented approach, and hold all students to high expectations, recognizing that some may need more support. The ideal candidate will have experience working with families experiencing poverty, and with students and families for whom English is a second or third language, and/or interest in working in a classroom that includes students with identified special needs. We seek a teammate who is positive, collaborative, and an effective communicator who will contribute actively to both the classroom and the larger PPS community.

The Pre‑K Special Ed Educational Technician will take direction from the Pre‑K teacher, overseeing the classroom and the school's administrators, and report to the school's administrators as well as the PPS Director of Pre‑K Programs. The candidate will attend both school and Pre‑K team staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate and as required.

All Public Pre‑K programs in Maine adhere to Maine Chapter 124 as their guidance document.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization
• Maine State Educational Technician III (023) & 028 authorization
• Possession of or ability to attain ESSA authorization within the first year of hire
• Level 4 status on the Maine Roads to Quality Registry within 3 years

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

• Overtime eligible
• Covered under the Ed Tech contract (see CBA here)
• Pay rate determined based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA
