Passaic County Community College is seeking a Lead Mentor who will report to the Program Assistant Director for a grant program for Pre-College Programs serving middle school and high school students in Paterson Public Schools or Passaic Public Schools. Lead Mentors are initially required to make a commitment for one session: Summer 8 weeks (July-August); Fall 13 weeks (October-December); or Spring 13 weeks (February-May).
This is a part-time, hourly position.
- Participate in mentor training provided by grant program.
- Serve as a role model for mentors and encourage college/career pursuits.
- Assist in the development of skills necessary for protégés to succeed both personally and academically.
- Participate in the planning of enrichment activities and use level all to create complementary activities.
- Document the experiences of students via social media. Posts on the following platforms weekly: Tiktok, Instagram, Youtube
- Perform other duties as assigned by the program director/coordinator.
- Attend Saturday program and field trips.
Additional Lead Mentor Duties:
- Communications: Create publications (flyer, website, social media, handbooks). provide regular updates and resources needed for mentors to management (i.e., debrief meetings, crisis management, team staff meetings, etc.)
- Data Verification: Entering new student data, verifying student information, combining survey information.
- Tutoring and Advising: Offering tutoring in Math and English, advising early College Cohort along with Early College Mentor, Preparing mentor workshops.
- Observation and Feedback: Offering feedback on mentor role and student engagement, Providing insight on student trends for programming.
- Ensure mentors are prepared for Saturday program.
Required Skills, Experience, and Background:
- Must be current college student in Junior year; (Preference with completion of associate degree).
- Knowledge of computer programs and some social media platforms, for example, Word, Google, Zoom, etc.
- Ability to communicate on a verbal as well written basis with students, staff, parents and others.
- Ability to work in a team environment coordinating needed student services.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
Compensation:
Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The hourly pay rate for this position is $17.
- New Jersey Sick Leave: Earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked with a maximum of 40 hours of leave per benefit year. (Eligible to use after successful completion of probationary period.)
