Job summary

Passaic County Community College is seeking a part-time Pre-College Instructor for HS Math, English, Science. The role supports College Bound, GEAR UP, and Upward Bound programs with engaging curriculum and data-driven instruction.

The instructor will work on Saturdays for six weeks, 8:30 am–1:30 pm, using online tools when needed and collaborating with program staff to promote student success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; certification in related subject area preferred.
• At least one year of classroom teaching experience with adolescents.
• Knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management.
• Willingness to attend training to utilize the credit recovery platform.
• Comfortable leading online lessons using Google Meet and/or Zoom.
• Must be available for the six-week program.

Pre-College Instructor (HS Math, English, Science) (PT)

Part-time Regular Paterson, NJ, US

We are seeking part-time Pre-College instructors for High School Math, Science, Special Education and Elective. Under the leadership of the Program Directors and Coordinators, the Pre-College Program Instructors provide academic instruction and support to students enrolled in the College Bound, GEAR UP or Upward Bound Programs. Instructors provide content-specific, rigorous lessons for enrichment and remedial support. Other services and activities coordinated by the individuals in this role include design of engagement plans for students who may be struggling and offer other supports and strategies for student success.

This is a part-time hourly position.

Examples of Duties:

• Part-time, Fall – Spring (20 Saturdays) 8:30 am – 1:30 pm. (up to 10 hours/week)
• Proficient with technology
• Collect, analyze and maintain student data, including test scores and Personal Educational Plans to improve service delivery to students and increase student outcomes
• Plan and deliver engaging curriculum in required content area using culturally responsive practices
• Establish and maintain relationship(s) with Pre College personnel, any additional personnel related to the program
• Facilitate ongoing monitoring and assessment of student progress

Prerequisite Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Certification in related subject area (mathematics, English, biology, physics, chemistry) preferred.
• Must have one or more years’ classroom teaching experience with adolescents, as well as experience in conducting testing and training activities.
• Knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management techniques. Willingness to attend training to utilize the credit recovery platform.
• Comfortable leading online lessons using Google Meet and/or Zoom.
• Must be available to work the entirety of the six-week program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with high school students
• Knowledge of TRIO and/or college preparatory programs helpful.

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The hourly pay range for this position is $36-$42.

• New Jersey Sick Leave: Earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked with a maximum of 40 hours of leave per benefit year. (Eligible to use after successful completion of probationary period.)
