Job summary

Toole Design Group in Austin, TX is seeking a seasoned transportation leader to guide our integrated transportation engineering and multimodal planning practice. This firmwide role blends practice leadership with hands-on project delivery and reports to the Engineering Director.

As Practice Lead you will mentor engineers and planners, shape strategy, develop business, and ensure technical excellence on major transportation projects, including planning studies, safety analyses, and corridor

Qualifications

• Desire to lead a practice — develop the next generation of engineers and planners.
• Strategic thinking for where the practice should go and what work to pursue.
• Commitment to technical excellence as a standard on complex projects.
• Ability to craft and communicate a vision bridging planning and engineering.
• 15+ years of success on transportation engineering and multimodal planning projects.
• Proven experience building and leading teams, programs, practices and projects.
• Experience in business development, proposal strategy, and client development.
• Belief that strong engineering enables great planning and equitable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development and practice planning in line with growth targets with regional leadership.
• Support financial health through effective project delivery and staff development.
• Collaborate with leadership to advance practice priorities.
• Recruit and advise on hiring to support growth.
• Drive training, innovation and quality control across the practice.
• Support marketing and raise visibility locally and nationally.
• Guide subject matter groups in traffic engineering, multimodal planning and related specialties.
