Job summary

Kimley-Horn’s Atlanta office is seeking an experienced Power Systems Studies Engineer to lead transmission analyses and interconnection studies in a demanding consulting environment. The role involves building detailed models, running stability and short-circuit studies, and producing client-ready documentation in compliance with NERC standards, without a remote work option.

You will interact with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and developers, supporting Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility Studies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of transmission planning or power system studies.
  • Experience performing steady-state, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses with PSSE/PSLF/ETAP.
  • Working knowledge of NERC reliability standards (TPL, FAC, PRC, CIP).
  • Understanding interconnection study processes across ERCOT, PJM, MISO, ISO-NE, NYISO.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain transmission network models for steadystate, dynamic, and short-circuit analyses using PSSE, PSLF, TARA, ETAP, ASPEN, or equivalents.
  • Perform power flow, contingency, transient stability, and voltage stability analyses.
  • Support interconnection evaluations for conventional and inverter-based resources.
  • Prepare Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility Study documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC planning and protection standards (FAC-008, PRC-010, CIP-014).
  • Collaborate with utilities/ISOs/RTOs and developers on interconnection and reliability processes.
