Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Atlanta, GA, seeks an experienced Power Systems Studies Engineer to perform advanced transmission analyses and support interconnection studies for diverse resources. This role emphasizes reliability, code compliance, and client-ready technical documentation.

The engineer will build network models, run dynamic stability and short-circuit studies, and collaborate with utilities and developers within a consulting environment. PE licensure is preferred, with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in transmission planning or system studies.
  • Experience performing steady-state, transient stability, and short-circuit analyses with industry-standard software (PSSE, PSLF, TARA, ETAP, ASPEN).
  • Working knowledge of NERC reliability standards, including TPL, FAC, PRC, and CIP series.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain detailed transmission network models for steady-state, dynamic stability, and short-circuit analysis.
  • Perform power flow, contingency, transient stability, and voltage stability analyses.
  • Support generator interconnection evaluations for conventional and inverter-based resources.
  • Prepare documentation for Feasibility, System Impact, and Facility Studies under SGIP/LGIP or equivalent frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC planning and protection standards (FAC-008, PRC-010, CIP-014).
  • Collaborate with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and developers to ensure interconnection and reliability processes.
