Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Atlanta, GA seeks a Power Systems Studies Engineer focused on EMT modeling using PSCAD, ETAP and EMTP. You will build and maintain transmission and generation EMT models and support interconnection, grid integration, and reliability studies for utility, developer, and ISO/RTO clients.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years of EMT study experience, with strong harmonics analysis and SSR/SSCI awareness.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years in power system studies focusing on EMT.
  • Experience with PSCAD/ETAP/EMTP for EMT modeling.
  • Experience with TRV, O/V studies, and insulation coordination.
  • Knowledge of harmonics and pre/post-energization transient modeling.
  • Familiarity with SSR/SSCI risk assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain EMT system models for transmission and generation equipment.
  • Lead studies on TRV, temporary overvoltage, and insulation coordination.
  • Perform harmonics investigations for safe grid integration.
  • Design SSR/SSCI studies to assess risks and mitigations.
  • Document findings and prepare client reports and regulatory submissions.
  • Support EMT modeling for inverter-based resources and ISO/RTO studies.
