Job summary

SpaceX in Memphis seeks a Process Safety Engineer to establish process safety parameters across power generation systems and supporting utilities. The engineer will act as a safety SME, coordinating with operations, engineering, and construction to manage risk, support startup activities, and implement the PSM program.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in an engineering discipline and 3+ years in design, commissioning, or process safety of high-hazard systems; relocation to Memphis may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in process safety, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or an engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience with design, commissioning, or process safety of power generation, utilities, or high-hazard process systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PHAs of power generation systems and utilities and recommend controls to minimize risk.
• Evaluate equipment overpressure/overtemperature scenarios in boilers, HRSGs, turbines, and safety systems.
• Perform/oversee FAT, SAT, risk assessments and hazard analyses on complex process equipment.
• Implement and validate safety-critical interlocks during startup, commissioning, and PSSRs.
• Develop and maintain a Process Safety Management (PSM) program ensuring compliance with pillars of PSM.
• Support commissioning and startup of new power generation facilities and major capital projects in Memphis.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and construction teams to mitigate process safety risks.
• Utilize tools like RCA, HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA, and safety performance calculations; use Aspen tools for process modeling.
