Job summary

Calpine, a major energy company, seeks a Journey-level technician to operate and monitor power plant equipment. You will read gauges, log activities, and perform routine maintenance, diagnostics and repairs to mechanical and electrical systems.

You will also conduct chemical analyses on steam and condensate systems, maintain logs, and contribute to SOPs and plant improvement projects while following safety regulations and operating procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, technical/vocational training or military service.
• Typically 6 years related experience with health and safety regulations and hazardous materials.
• Experience using test equipment and calibration devices; familiarity with control systems.
• Strong mechanical, chemistry, physics and math foundations.
• Valid driver's license and relevant certifications/licensures.

Responsibilities

• Start, stop and monitor equipment; read gauges and record activities.
• Use monitoring equipment to measure, record and adjust parameters.
• Perform maintenance, diagnosis and repair of mechanical/electrical equipment.
• Perform overhaul tasks to improve system efficiency and safety.
• Conduct chemical analysis on steam, cooling and condensate systems; log results.
• Assist in developing SOPs and plant improvement ideas.
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations; maintain logs.
• Operate heavy equipment and handle bulk chemicals safely when required.
