Job summary

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) seeks an Auxiliary Operator trainee to perform tasks for the safe, reliable operation of auxiliary equipment at North Omaha Station or Nebraska City Station. Responsibilities include generating work orders, surveillance checks, rounds, equipment isolation, and performance tests to support unit operations.

Incumbents progress from Helper to Auxiliary Operator and eventually to Equipment Operator within three years, by completing required training.

Qualifications

• Formal education with a minimum of a certificate in power plant or process control technology.
• High school diploma/GED with two years power plant, industrial operations, or military experience to include operating or maintaining large equipment and troubleshooting interrelated power plant systems.
• High degree of mechanical ability.

Responsibilities

• Generate work orders, surveillance checks and rounds, equipment isolation and performance tests, and support for unit operations.
• Assist in removing units from and restoring units to service when authorized.
• Operate screen house and intake equipment and support all phases of operation as needed.
• Apply operator fundamentals and human performance tools on shift.
• Maintain logs and monitor conditions, adjusting temperature, flow, and pressure as required.
• Participate in housekeeping and emergency response activities at the station.
