Job summary

Alliant Energy is seeking an operator for safe and efficient control of steam turbine generating units and related equipment. The role can be filled at Apprentice or Journey level depending on qualifications, with training at Prairie Creek Gen Station and no residency requirement.

Responsibilities include leading safety initiatives, maintaining compliance with environmental and safety rules, operating control systems and logging operational data.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read P&ID, operating manuals and technical manuals.
• Mechanical aptitude and basic math knowledge.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read RIGHT TO KNOW information.
• Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
• Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies.
• Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety.
• Observe safety rules, policies, and practices.
• Encourage safe work behaviors and correct unsafe conditions.
• Operate boilers, turbines, and auxiliary equipment safely.
• Start, operate, inspect and shut down steam units and equipment.
• Record pressures, temperatures and flows; monitor gauges.
• Prepare logs and reports as required.
• Inform supervisors of abnormal conditions; assist with troubleshooting.
