Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in the Power global practice seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to design and evaluate mechanical systems for coal and natural gas-fired generation facilities. The role covers front-end planning, final design, construction administration, and client interfacing with cross‑disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; FE exam required or eligible.
• 7 years of mechanical experience; EPC project experience preferred.
• PE license preferred; strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to complex assignments.
• Experience with Arrow, Fathom, and SmartPlant P&ID is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop cost opinions, work plans, and schedules with independent evaluation.
• Provide leadership and coaching to less experienced staff.
• Meet with clients and coordinate with project team members.
• Lead mechanical design projects for natural gas and coal-fired facilities.
• Manage air quality systems, equipment sizing, hydraulics, pumps, piping, and P&IDs.
• Perform lifecycle cost analysis and equipment selection.
• Oversee plumbing, pumping, and instrumentation related to pumps, tanks, and vessels.
• Assist with design reviews and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.
