Job summary

Consolidated Edison Company of New York is seeking a Mechanic B to perform electrical, welding, and mechanical maintenance on power plant components. The role involves repairing piping systems, valves, tanks and rotating equipment, plus interpreting schematics and using test gear for electrical troubleshooting.

Experience with welding processes (GTAW/SMAW) and NEC awareness is preferred; NY asbestos licenses may be required. Must be able to work weekends and overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 3+ years working with power plant components or equivalent equipment.
• Knowledge of confined space entry, pipe fitting, welding and electrical systems is preferred.
• Welding certification/license and NEC knowledge are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support career path from Mechanic B toward Mechanic A through hands-on maintenance.
• Maintain, repair, and install power piping systems, valves, tanks, vessels, and rotating equipment.
• Read schematics and use test equipment to troubleshoot electrical components and circuits.
• Perform welding tasks and mechanical duties on steam, gas, and powerplant systems.
