Job summary

NRG Energy in Pekin, IA seeks an Equipment Operator to help run power plant boilers and support systems. You will monitor control room indicators, perform routine inspections, and troubleshoot equipment while following safety and environmental standards.

You’ll read technical manuals, assist with outages and permit work, and coordinate with station staff and contractors to keep plant operations efficient and compliant. A HS diploma and valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Must have knowledge of job safety requirements and the ability to learn
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Three–seven years of experience related to power plant operation and maintenance preferred

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment under supervision for maximum efficiency and safety
• Monitor equipment conditions using control room indications and test equipment
• Read, interpret, and implement manuals, P&IDs, and operating procedures
• Inspect plant and equipment; prepare reports and logs; assist in outages and cleanings
• Prepare work permits and ensure safe permit work and accessibility
• Assist Unit Operator with control room activities
• Maintain housekeeping and participate in ongoing training
