Job summary

AEP's Coal Handler in Winfield, West Virginia, is a full-time position focused on supporting power plant operation through routine maintenance and operating tasks. Responsibilities include inspecting and servicing heat exchangers, dust collectors, ash handling and boiler prep, plus using meters and tools to monitor systems and write work orders.

Candidates should meet the education requirements and possess a valid driver's license; ability to work rotating shifts is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology, or equivalent experience.
• High school diploma with four years of related work experience.
• High school diploma with two years military experience.
• Valid State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Isolate, clean, inspect and service strainers, heat exchangers and dust collectors.
• Operate power tools, maintain tools and work areas; perform tests with portable meters.
• Maintain ash handling equipment and monitor plant equipment for normal operation.
• Disassemble/assemble parts, repair piping and fittings; scaffold as needed.
• Handle materials with equipment; operate forklifts and loaders.
• Clean plant areas; clean oil igniters and nozzles.
• Prepare boilers for operation and monitor coal feeds; manage slag.
• Use flow diagrams; update prints and run tests.
• Follow safety rules; participate in firefighting and first aid training.
• Perform similar or lesser skilled work as assigned.

Education

Associate degree in engineering/energy tech

Associate degree + 2 years related

High school diploma + 4 years related work

High school diploma + 2 years military experience
