Job summary

Blue Grass Energy in Kentucky seeks a skilled Line Technician to perform construction, maintenance and operations of energized and de-energized distribution lines. You will handle switching, transformers and line equipment, while observing safety protocols and on-call duties.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least five years of line experience or equivalent, and certifications including CDL and pole top/bucket rescue.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five years' line experience or equivalent.
• Must maintain CDL and pole top/bucket rescue certifications.
• Ability to read manuals, follow procedures and prepare reports.

Responsibilities

• Performs construction, operations and maintenance of energized or de-energized lines.
• Performs switching, fusing and line conversions as needed.
• Installs transformers, breaker banks, regulators and boosters.
• Complies with safety measures; trained in first aid and rescue procedures.
• Monitors for hazardous conditions and reports to supervisor.
• Clears right of way and trims trees as required.
• Assists in excavation and pole setting tasks.
• Attends safety meetings and participates in drills.
• Supervises others in Crew Chief's absence.
• Receives service calls on-call and documents outages.
• Responds to emergencies and major events as needed.
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition.
• Operates line equipment and devices correctly.
• Relays customer complaints to the appropriate authority.
• Trains or guides temporary personnel as assigned.
• Drives and maintains assigned vehicle; keeps it clean.
• Maintains valid commercial driver’s license.
• Follows EKP line switching procedures and SCADA diagrams.
• Performs substation power restoration per protocol.
• Adheres to Blue Grass Energy Safety Manual and policies.
