Job summary

Kimley-Horn in Dallas, TX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to join its Power Generation team. The role focuses on mechanical design for power projects, piping, P&IDs, and coordination with clients, with mentorship of junior engineers.

The ideal candidate holds a PE license and has hands-on experience in GT Pro or similar software, supporting both new builds and project delivery through the full lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of design experience in Power Generation.
  • Experience with GT Pro or similar gas power modelling software.
  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering or relevant degree.
  • Understanding of project life cycle and large power plant projects.
  • Experience coordinating with clients and overseeing quality.

Responsibilities

  • Support or lead mechanical engineering efforts for natural gas and coal-fired power generation projects.
  • Engineer pumping and piping systems for fluids and gases.
  • Develop and review P&IDs for accurate system representation.
  • Review and approve technical standards, specs, drawings, and docs.
  • Perform piping system design including sizing and material selection and supports.
  • Specify instrumentation for pumps, tanks, and vessels.
  • Prepare cost estimates, work plans, and schedules; exercise independent judgement.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Coordinate with clients and external partners; ensure quality.
  • Design and support Air Quality Control and Effluent Limitation Guidelines systems.
