Job summary

Kimley-Horn's Charlotte, NC office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 10+ years of experience to join our Power Generation team. Focused on the design and delivery of power generation and heavy industrial facilities, including fossil, hydrogen, solar, nuclear, energy storage, decarbonization, mining, and gas compression projects.

You will lead electrical engineering efforts, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and partners.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering design experience in Power Generation.
  • Experience with simple cycle, combined cycle plants using natural gas, fuel oil, and diesel and/or coal-fired generation.
  • P.E. license in Electrical Engineering or relevant degree.
  • Strong power engineering background with owners’ engineer/technical advisory services.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates, work plans, and schedules with independent judgment.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and external partners.
  • Lead electrical engineering efforts for natural gas and coal-fired power generation projects.
  • Design and support Air Quality Control and Effluent Limitation Guidelines systems.
  • Perform piping system design including sizing, material selection, routing, and supports.
  • Develop and review P&IDs for accurate component representation.
  • Conduct electrical equipment condition assessments and lifecycle cost analyses.
  • Design plumbing systems for sanitary and potable water.
  • Engineer pumping and piping systems for fluids and gases.
  • Select and size tanks and vessels and coordinate instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, jurisdictions, and contractors.
