Job summary

Kimley-Horn’s Charlotte, NC office seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer with 10+ years in power generation to join our team. You will lead mechanical design efforts for natural gas and coal-fired plants, develop P&IDs, and oversee piping, tanks, and vessels while mentoring junior staff.

You will coordinate with clients and contractors, perform lifecycle cost analyses, and guide technical decisions through the project life cycle from feasibility to commissioning.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering design experience in Power Generation.
  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Experience with simple cycle and combined cycle plants using natural gas, fuel oil, diesel, and/or coal-fired generation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts for power generation projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates, work plans, and schedules with independent judgment.
  • Provide guidance, technical direction, and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients and external partners.
  • Design piping, tanks and vessels; develop P&IDs to reflect system components.
  • Perform lifecycle cost analyses and equipment condition assessments.
