Job summary

ATI Specialty Materials in North Carolina invites applications for a Summer 2027 Powder Processing Engineering Intern. This 10-week internship offers hands-on experience in powder processing and materials manufacturing, with close collaboration with Engineering and Operations teams on real projects.

You will work on material characterization, process analysis, and process development, gaining exposure to automation initiatives and quality improvements while developing practical engineering

Qualifications

• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Interest in powder processing, materials manufacturing, and process improvement.
• Ability to analyze data and evaluate process performance.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to work in a manufacturing and plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Create and analyze seeded heat compacts using BPO materials to support an updated fingerprint database.
• Develop a process to limit open-air dumping of revert powder from screening to VIM.
• Support implementation of the auto-feed program in screening to improve process efficiency and consistency.
• Analyze process and material data to identify opportunities for quality and process improvement.
• Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to develop and implement practical improvements to powder processing operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to apply engineering principles to real-world manufacturing challenges.
