Job summary

Pilgrim’s Hatchery Labor position in Lufkin, TX is a hands-on role focused on handling eggs, monitoring incubation, assisting with chick hatching, and performing quality checks to uphold animal care and biosecurity standards. The role involves operating specialized equipment, maintaining clean work areas, and adhering to strict safety protocols in a fast-paced environment.

A HS diploma and poultry/food industry experience are a plus; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred.
• Experience: Poultry or food industry experience is a plus.
• Skills: Ability to multitask and work quickly, good written and oral communication, follow simple instructions, be a team player.
• Physical: Work in high-temperature environments (100+°F), tolerate odors, lift/push 100 lbs+ continuously; push/pull 450 lb. buggies of chicks and eggs.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle and set eggs in incubators according to procedures.
• Monitor incubation conditions (temperature, humidity, ventilation).
• Assist with chick hatching and transfer.
• Perform quality checks on eggs and chicks for health and biosecurity.
• Clean and sanitize equipment and work areas per safety guidelines.
• Follow biosecurity and animal welfare protocols to protect flock health.
• Record data on egg counts, hatch rates, and chick quality for reporting.
• Assist with chick vaccination and preparation for transport.
