The role involves leading graduate students and contributing to NSF-funded research on resistive pulse sensing and peptide analysis.

Ideal candidates hold a Ph.D. in biomedical or chemical engineering or chemistry, with experience in nanopore sensing and related surface chemistries.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry.
  • Experience in nanopore sensing and Resistive Pulse Sensing (RPS) preferred.
  • Leadership experience guiding graduate students on research projects.

Responsibilities

  • 35%: perform experiments to secure resistive pulse signatures for the 20 amino acids using plastic in-plane nanopore sensors.
  • 20%: build an integrated plastic-based system with an exopeptidase reactor and dual in-plane nanopore sensor to determine amino acid composition.
  • 15%: fabricate in-plane nanopore sensors via modified injection molding with thermal fusion bonding and surface chemistries.
  • 10%: mentor graduate students on RPS measurements and exopeptidase action on peptides.
  • 10%: write peer-reviewed papers on RPS detection of single amino acids and on-line detection post-exopeptidase action.
  • 5%: attend and present at weekly and national/international meetings; participate in outreach to the public and students.
