Job summary

The Center of BioModular Multi-Scale Systems for Precision Medicine (CBMM) at The University of Kansas invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow to advance nanotechnology for structural determinations of proteins. This NSF-funded two-year project focuses on resistive pulse sensing with novel plastic in-plane nanopore sensors and integrated exopeptidase reactors.

Candidates with a Ph.D. in biomedical or mechanical engineering or chemistry are welcome.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemistry at appointment time.
  • A Ph.D. in hand is required for the Postdoctoral Researcher title.

Responsibilities

  • 35%: conduct experiments to secure resistive pulse signatures for 20 amino acids using plastic in-plane nanopore sensors.
  • 20%: build an integrated plastic system with an exopeptidase reactor coupled to the nanopore sensor to determine amino acid composition of peptides.
  • 15%: fabricate in-plane nanopore sensors via modified injection molding with thermal fusion bonding and explore surface chemistries including TRIS modification.
  • 10%: monitor graduate students on RPS measurements and exopeptidase activity.
  • 10%: write peer‑reviewed papers on detection/identification of amino acids via RPS and online detection post‑exopeptidase action.
  • 5%: attend and present at weekly/group meetings and national/international meetings as scheduled.
  • 5%: participate in NSF-mandated outreach activities to the public and school children.
