Job summary

Flagship Pioneering seeks a Bioinformatics Scientist to join the Computational Team, building the analytical framework connecting nanopore measurements to biological insight. You will work with experimentalists and engineers to develop methods that transform raw data into actionable sequencing outputs and knowledge.

The role blends biology, physics, signal processing, and machine learning; you will craft standard pipelines and new approaches to interpret complex signals while collaborating

Qualifications

• Master's degree + 3+ years in a quantitative field or PhD in a related area.
• Strong Python and scientific computing experience.
• Experience handling noisy complex biological/physical time-series data.
• Background in at least two: statistics, ML, signal processing, Bayesian modeling.
• Able to bridge experimental and computational work with wet-lab scientists.
• Clear scientific communication, written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Analyze nanopore and electrophysiology datasets to identify signal features.
• Develop computational workflows for event detection, classification, and fingerprinting.
• Build models linking nanopore data to molecular identity, structure, function.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists to interpret results and guide experiments.
• Partner with protein science, signal processing, and ML teams to boost platform performance.
• Help establish benchmarking, validation, and uncertainty quantification practices.
