Job summary

Trident Seafoods is seeking a Port Engineer to manage maintenance and repairs of fishing vessels in the Bering Sea, Washington, and Oregon. You will oversee budgets, schedules, and ensure compliance with US Coast Guard regulations, coordinating with engineering crews and shore operations.

Travel to Alaska and local shipyards is required; a 40-hour week with on-call and extended days during shipyard periods. Join a team dedicated to safety, sustainability, and excellence.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years ship repair or marine engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vessel propulsion and auxiliary systems equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or related field.
  • Shipyard Competent Person Certificate preferred, or ability to complete within 6 months.
  • 24 Hour Hazwoper Certificate preferred, or ability to complete within 6 months.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated project management experience preferred.
  • Technical knowledge of vessels and related equipment.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with multiple departments to ensure engineering operations are safe and compliant.
  • Communicates daily with ship’s engineering crew and shore side operations.
  • Supports and monitors day-to-day technical operation of vessels.
  • Manages vessels and ongoing projects simultaneously.
  • Ensures proper monitoring of maintenance, deficiencies, and reporting.
  • Manages budgets and schedules, contractor selection, quality assurance and contract management.
  • Evaluates and initiates corrective action on emergency repairs.
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies, design groups and shipyards.
  • Prepares work recommendations and procurement plans.
  • Reviews repair requests and prepares budgets and scopes of work.
