Job summary

IU Health in Indianapolis is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician to perform basic and advanced sleep studies under supervision. You will prepare patient equipment, interview patients to identify sleep disorder issues, and ensure procedures are explained before testing.

You will monitor patients during testing, intervene when needed, assist with scoring sleep studies, generate reports, and maintain testing equipment. Strong attention to patient care and adherence to lab protocols is essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • Completion of accredited polysomnography program leading to certification or AS degree; or completion of medical program leading to AS with state license.
  • Pass the board exam and become credentialed (RPSGT) within 4 years of hire; requires STAR/ASTEP program.
  • Advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.

Overview

Performs basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies under the supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist. Prepares patient equipment for testing, interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain pre and post testing procedures. Performs and documents testing per lab protocols. Monitors patient throughout testing and intervenes as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues. Assists with scoring sleep studies and generating reports. Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing. Determines and reports needed repairs/replacements.

  • High School Diploma/GED is required. Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Requires successful completion of an accredited educational polysomnography program leading to either a certification or an associate degree in Polysomnography or successful completion of a medical program leading to a minimum of an AS degree associated with a state license or certification (Medical Assistant, Nursing, Respiratory Care, etc.) or a minimum of 6 months of experience as a Polysomnographic Technician Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies.
  • Pass the board exam and become a credentialed (RPSGT) within 4 years of hire which requires completion of an accredited STAR or ASTEP Polysomnographic Program.
  • Advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
