Job summary

Illinois Department of Transportation seeks an Engineering Technician IV to develop policies, specifications, and manuals guiding local agency transportation projects. You will analyze new tech, support BLRS publications, and monitor legislative impacts in a collaborative, safety‑conscious environment.

Minimum qualifications include two years of college in civil engineering technology or related field plus five years of experience, or seven years of engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or related technical curriculum plus five years of engineering experience; or seven years engineering experience.
• Working knowledge of local, state, and federal procedures as they apply to local agency construction and maintenance projects.
• Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

• Develops policies, procedures, and specifications for local agency construction projects.
• Maintains BLRS Manual and other publications for districts and local agencies.
• Analyzes new technology and disseminates information to district and local agency personnel.
• Monitors impact and helps develop the BLRS and department positions on proposed legislation.
• Coordinates legislative changes in the Road and Bridge and related laws publication.
• Performs duties in compliance with safety rules and supports fair treatment of employees.
