POSITION SUMMARY
The Authority is currently recruiting a Police Sergeant to join Georgia World Congress Center. The Police Sergeant will supervise and participate in the activities of police patrol on an assigned shift and perform responsible administrative staff duties. Supervision is exercised over Police Officers, Police Recruits, and civilian employees. Will frequently participate in the work performed by Police Officers, and in some assignments are required to become involved in situations requiring extreme physical exertion. Sergeants will often assume complete charge in the absence of a higher ranking officer. Police sergeants work independently in performing regularly assigned duties under the general orders of a Police Lieutenant or other higher ranking supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation, oral and written reports, and by results obtained.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may experience intermittent exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, toxic chemicals, electrical currents, pathogens, violent behavior, weapons, explosives, traffic, animals, and/or loud noises. Daily shifts will endure various degrees of walking, running, climbing, bending, standing, turning, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling, requiring a full range of body movements. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events. Tasks include but are not limited to working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surroundings and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property. Standard body gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment based on assignment including, but not limited to, various types of body armor and safety gear. Police officers are armed and are expected to exercise their legal authority appropriately whenever necessary. There is the obvious danger of confrontations with criminals and disorderly persons. Police officers must be constantly alert and ready to deal appropriately with a number of threatening situations. Police officers are usually scheduled to work 40-hour weeks. Shift work is necessary because protection must be provided around the clock. Sergeants frequently work weekends, holidays, and nights. All police officers are required to work at any time their services are needed and may work long hours during arrests, investigations or special events. All positions are required to work in inclement weather conditions.
