Description

DEPARTMENT: Concord Police Department

TYPICAL WORK SHIFT/SCHEDULE: Variable schedule.

STARTING SALARY: $25.21 to $27.14 per hour (Top of Range $33.91) with a competitive flexible benefits package, including low deductible health insurance, dental plan, paid vacation and holidays, short and long term disability, as well as life insurance and 457 investment plans.

Job Summary: Receives and dispatches emergency and routine calls for the city Police Department in order to protect life and property and secure the well-being of the citizens of the City of Concord. Answers calls in a timely, professional, and appropriate manner.

Examples of Duties:

  1. Monitors officer safety, position, and progress on all calls for service, person checks, motor vehicle stops, and community policing projects.
  2. Receives and handles incoming telephone calls, including 911 calls, and determines priority of calls.
  3. Provides information for officers as needed and ensures that all calls for service are updated.
  4. Ensures members of the command staff are kept current on all calls of importance.
  5. Makes outgoing calls to citizens and other agencies to give or obtain information.
  6. Monitors radio traffic of other agencies and provides information as requested.
  7. Maintains building security and regulates access to the dispatch center.
  8. Monitors safety of officers and prisoners in holding facilities.
  9. Ensures that radio and other equipment in the dispatch center remain in working order.
  10. Records information on in-house computer for all calls for service.
  11. Assists with reception duties.

Typical Qualifications: Performs other related duties as required.

Education And Experience: High School Diploma or its recognized equivalent supplemented by class work in personal computers, electricity, and electronics. There is no experience requirement for this position; however, prior communications or public safety experience is desirable.

Must be able to work shift as assigned.

Licenses and Certifications: Ability to obtain S.P.O.T.S. (State Police Computer System) Operator Certification.

Material And Equipment Used: Radio, Telephone, General Office Equipment, S.P.O.T.S. (Interstate) Computer System, Video Camera Monitors, and other related equipment.

Knowledge Of: The territory contained within the area, proper use of radio and telephone communications systems, FCC requirements, and SPOTS computer system operation.

Mental And Physical Abilities To: Read and understand written directions, learn proper dispatch procedures, perform multiple tasks concurrently, and maintain a calm demeanor during periods of extreme stress.

Skill In: Operating office equipment and typing.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office. The employee may be exposed to noise and other potential hazards.
