Job summary

Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City, SD, seeks a Lab Assistant under the direction of the class instructor to provide instructional support in lab settings. You will help set up lab projects, maintain equipment and assist with student performance records.

You will observe and provide feedback to instructors, help update records, and perform other duties as needed to support instructional staff and student learning in a hands-on lab environment.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of a HS diploma and at least one year related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work.
• Fundamentals and general principles in the lab content area assigned.
• Operation and use of lab equipment in content area.
• General record keeping and administrative support functions.
• Working with, supporting and assisting students and communicating with instructional staff and students in a learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Assists and supports instructional staff in assisting students, observing students and explaining lab projects and lab activities.
• Assists instructors in setting up labs and equipment for various lab projects
• Assists instructors repair and maintain lab equipment.
• Helps instructors update, record and maintain student performance records.
• Provides feedback, input and observational information to instructional staff regarding individual student performance in the lab.
• Performs other duties of comparable level/type.
