Qualifications

Job Title: Plumber

Job Description

This role seeks an experienced Journeyman Plumber with strong experience in mechanical piping systems for large-scale commercial and industrial construction projects. You will focus on the installation, fabrication, and maintenance of hydronic heating, cooling, and process piping systems, primarily in mechanical rooms and complex commercial environments. You will work closely with multiple trades to deliver high-quality, code-compliant piping installations on demanding job sites. This role will be full time in Portland, ME. We are offering $110 a day per diem as well as $30 - $37 an hour. This role will be going on for the next year.

Responsibilities

• Install mechanical piping systems including hydronic heating, chilled water, steam, condensate return, and compressed air systems for commercial and industrial projects.


• Work in mechanical rooms to install boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and associated piping systems with precision and adherence to specifications.


• Perform layout, fabrication, and installation of piping systems using materials such as steel, copper, PVC, and PEX.


• Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, and coordinated BIM layouts to plan and execute piping installations.


• Cut, thread, groove, solder, braze, and assemble piping systems according to project requirements and industry standards.


• Align piping systems with HVAC, electrical, and structural components in tight commercial environments to ensure proper coordination and functionality.


• Perform pressure testing, flushing, and support system startup activities to verify integrity and performance of installed systems.


• Ensure all installations comply with project specifications, building codes, and safety standards, including OSHA regulations.


• Troubleshoot piping and mechanical system issues in the field and make necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain system performance.


• Collaborate effectively with project managers, foremen, and other trades to meet project schedules and milestones.


• Assist with drainage system installation using cast iron and other materials as required by project scope.


• Apply pipefitting and welding-related techniques, including threading, grooving, MIG, TIG, brazing, and fabrication, as needed for mechanical piping work.

Essential Skills

• Journeyman-level plumbing experience; formal license is not required.


• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in mechanical piping or commercial plumbing systems.


• Strong experience with mechanical room installations and large-diameter piping systems.


• Proven ability to read and work from isometric drawings, mechanical plans, P&IDs, and blueprints.


• Proficiency with pipefitting techniques including threading, grooving, and basic welding exposure.


• Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, piping installation, and drainage systems using cast iron.


• Solid understanding of commercial construction workflows and multi-trade coordination on active job sites.


• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing and resolving system issues.


• Ability to perform soldering, brazing, and fabrication for a variety of piping materials including steel, copper, PVC, and PEX.


• Familiarity with HVAC-related piping alignment and integration with mechanical, electrical, and structural components.


• Ability to perform pressure testing, flushing, and startup support for mechanical piping systems.


• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to access various job sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with pipe welding, including exposure to MIG and TIG processes, is a strong plus.


• Experience in pipefitting for commercial and industrial mechanical systems.


• Comfort working in mechanical rooms with complex piping layouts and equipment such as boilers, pumps, and heat exchangers.


• Ability to interpret coordinated BIM layouts for multi-trade installations.


• Experience working with compressed air systems, steam systems, and condensate return piping.


• Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and safe work practices on construction sites.


• Capability to work effectively alongside multiple trades, including HVAC, electrical, and structural teams.


• Strong communication skills for coordinating with project leadership and field teams.

Per diem is provided on a daily basis to support work-related travel and on-site expenses.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
