Job summary
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC in Ladson/North Charleston is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to improve safety, reliability, and performance of production equipment and automation systems. You will develop maintenance strategies, lead complex troubleshooting, and drive continuous improvement across controls, PLCs, robotics, and safety systems.
Reqs include a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years in industrial maintenance roles with hands-on PLC, HMI, and automation
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
- Five+ years of relevant industrial maintenance, controls, automation, or equipment engineering experience.
- Experience diagnosing PLC hardware, I/O, HMI, networks, safety controls, drives, sensors, actuators, and sequences.
- Experience reading electrical schematics, control drawings, I/O lists, network architecture, pneu/hydraulic diagrams.
- Experience with structured root cause analysis and technical problem-solving.
- Experience supporting equipment installations, commissioning, ramp-up, software changes, and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Develop maintenance and reliability strategies to improve safety, availability, performance, and lifecycle costs.
- Lead complex equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis using structured methods.
- Develop and improve preventive, predictive, condition-based, and TPM programs.
- Monitor maintenance performance via OEE, MTTR, MTBF, and related metrics.
- Provide technical direction during interruptions and containment efforts.
- Ensure safety compliance during PLC, robot, HMI, and network modifications.
- Develop scopes of work and specifications for upgrades and new installations.
- Support installation, commissioning, testing, ramp-up, and handover with validated software and drawings.
- Coordinate contractors, system integrators, OEMs, and suppliers.
- Review technical documentation and ensure quality and traceability.
- Mentor maintenance technicians and junior engineers.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
