Job summary

Gusto is seeking a hands-on operations professional to own day-to-day reconciliation and loss detection, driving improvements with AI and data tooling. You will build end-to-end understanding of money flow, from transaction to financials, while collaborating with Engineering and Finance to optimize controls and reporting.

Ideal candidates have a strong analytical background, 3–4 years in a similar role, and experience with payments or financial operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related analytical field.
• 3-4 years in an operations/analyst role with ownership and detail orientation.
• Experience in payments, banking, fintech, or financial services / accounting ops.
• Familiarity with reconciliation, cash management, ACH/NACHA rules, or card networks.
• Demonstrated use of AI to automate real workflows with measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Own reconciliation execution and exceptions research across cash and money movement.
• Monitor transactions to detect discrepancies, anomalies, and potential losses.
• Identify, track, and close payment issues with cross-functional partners.
• Contribute to accuracy and timeliness of financial close and reporting.
• Tighten controls on manual or automated processes; suggest enhancements.
• Partner with Engineering to trace breaks to their source and fix gaps.
• Strengthen documentation so processes are durable and repeatable.
• Use AI to automate manual workflows and reduce processing time.
• Share what you build to amplify team efficiency.
• Prioritize high-volume manual work for automation and impact.
