Job summary

Pearson is seeking a senior principal engineer to lead modernization of the content platform, designing target systems and migrating content and users safely. You will own technical plans for multiple tracks, drive critical migrations, and establish reusable capabilities with clean APIs.

The role spans UI, workflows, AI, backend services, and cloud infrastructure, requiring deep design and hands‑on implementation across AWS and OpenAI‑powered features. Bachelor’s in CS required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software, including 4+ years at staff/principal level or as technical lead across several teams or a large multi‑service system.
• Led re-platforming or legacy migration of a production system with active users and data.
• Full‑stack depth in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and React with MongoDB and event‑driven services behind APIs with many consumers.
• Production experience on AWS, especially ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, and API Gateway, with observability and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Write production code where risk is highest and review the hardest changes from other engineers.
• Unblock hard technical problems that span systems, teams, or domains.
• Work with engineering managers, product managers, architects, and quality engineers to trade off long‑term initiatives and current delivery.
• Define problem statements, designs, and migration plans, and communicate tradeoffs to diverse stakeholders.
• Run technical feasibility reviews for new AI capabilities and pilot practices like contract testing and zero‑downtime migration.
