Job summary

Pearson is modernizing its content platform with hands-on principal engineering leadership. You will design target systems, migrate assets and data safely, and build shared capabilities across teams using APIs.

The role spans UI, workflows, AI, backend services, and cloud Infra, with a focus on security, stability, and long-term technical roadmap. You will write production code on critical paths, mentor engineers, and drive architectural decisions while collaborating with product and leadership.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software.
• 4+ years at staff or principal level, or as technical lead across several teams or a large multi-service system.
• Led a re-platforming or legacy migration of a production system with active users and data.
• Full-stack depth in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and React, with MongoDB and event-driven services behind APIs.
• Production experience on AWS with observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical plan and delivery for several technology tracks from design through launch.
• Migrate large volumes of content and data with verification that nothing is lost for downstream products.
• Build shared capabilities exposed via clean APIs (media handling, search, rendering, AI content services).
• Provide an honest, costed view of technical debt and prioritize fixes.
• Serve as the technical point of contact during escalated incidents and drive root-cause analysis and fixes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience
