Job summary

Pearson is modernizing its content platform with a hands-on principal engineer who will own the technical plan across several tracks, including migrations, media handling, search, AI content services, and reliability. You will design target systems, move content and users safely, and lead architectural decisions with a focus on scale, security, and maintainability.

Expect to write production code on critical paths, review complex changes, and mentor engineers.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software.
• 4+ years at staff/principal level or as technical lead across several teams.
• Experience with re-platforming/legacy migrations of production systems.
• Strong expertise in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, React.

Responsibilities

• Owns technical plans and delivery for multiple tracks from design to launch.
• Migrations of large content/data volumes with data integrity.
• Develop shared platform services with clean APIs and high reliability.
• Provide honest assessment of technical debt and prioritization.
• Act as technical point of contact for incidents and post-mortems.
• Drive security, stability, and disaster recovery planning.
