Job summary

CSL Vifor Houston plasma center seeks qualified medical staff to evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis, administer approved immunizations, and provide limited emergency medical care per licensure. You will conduct donor interviews and assess health and test results, counsel on reactive tests, and obtain informed consent.

You will maintain accurate electronic records, uphold confidentiality, and where needed, cross-train in other areas while adhering to HSE policies and SOPs.

Qualifications

• Active state licensure from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, naturopathic training program or medical school required
• Completion of a foreign allopathic or osteopathic medical school and only if also licensed as a physician or EMT in the state
• Minimum of one year experience in a health care environment or clinical experience from a vocational or nursing program
• Experience in a plasma or whole blood collection center or other regulated environment preferred
• Ability to perform and interpret basic physical assessments (heart, lungs) and recognize signs of drug use
• Ability to educate donors, staff and community about plasma donation programs

Responsibilities

• Evaluate donor suitability for automated pheresis procedures.
• Administer and supervise approved immunizations other than RBC immunizations.
• Provide limited emergency medical care to donors and staff as allowed by licensure.
• Promote positive customer relations with donors.
• Conduct confidential interviews to gather information on donor suitability.
• Coordinate with medical leadership to answer donor medical questions and issues.
• Perform medical history reviews and assess donor test results for ongoing suitability.
• Notify and counsel donors about reactive test results and refer for follow-up.
• Explain informed consent, donor procedures, risks, and immunization details.
• Respond to medical emergencies according to SOPs and maintain emergency kits.
• Maintain accurate donor data in the electronic management system and follow SOPs.
• Preserve confidentiality of all donor and center information.
• May be cross-trained in other areas as needed.
• Bilingual skills may be required at the organization’s discretion.
