Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services, a Takeda subsidiary, seeks a Medical Support Specialist to support plasma center operations in Hampton, VA. You will determine donor eligibility, review test results, and respond to donor safety issues under medical guidance.

You will collaborate with the Center Manager and Center Physician, participate in vaccination programs, and assist in handling adverse events and SOPs to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality donor care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
• Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-B/EMT-A/EMT-I/EMT-P, LPN/LVN, RN; CPR and AED certification.
• Fulfill state requirements (in state of licensure) for basic IV therapy.
• Satisfactorily complete FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
• Two years in a clinical or hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing SPE.
• Evaluate donor reactions per SOPs and manage medical emergencies including center physician standing orders and donor transport.
• Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, donor safety, and eligibility.
• Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
• Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required; refer to EHS guidance.
• Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and assist investigations of pandemic threats.
