How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

Position Title: Plant Operator

Location: Rockford, IL

Shift: Monday - Friday / 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gases.

1. Loads and unloads gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers moving cylinders with proper carts only.
2. Sorts empty cylinders by type.
3. Rolls cylinders and operates a forklift truck for the movement of cylinders on pallets.
4. Understands hazards of various gases; reads and interprets cylinder labels and color codes; accurately labels cylinders.
5. Handles high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders; prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling; attaches to manifold; evacuates cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
6. Performs basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling, and cleaning work areas.
7. Inspects cylinders prior to filling following standards by government, Airgas, and distributor; conducts safety checks; fills cylinders by pressure and weight.
8. Checks cylinder quantities, styles, and product; assists with inventory management.
9. Manages paperwork according to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards; completes quality control sheets.
10. Complies with all safety standards for handling hazardous materials and gases.

Pay: $20 an hour

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

• HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of one year of manufacturing, filling, or loading experience preferred.
• Strong background in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand safety data sheets.
• Ability to work with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Attention to detail.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to operate a forklift safely.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to talk, walk, sit, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch, and use senses effectively.
• Regularly lift/move up to 60 pounds; with equipment, up to 800 pounds.

Work Environment:

• Minimal travel required.
• Work involves mechanical parts, electrical hazards, outdoor and indoor environments, temperature variations, loud noises, and odors.
