Summary

Under the supervision of I&E personnel, the Plant Services Laborer/Instrumentation & Electrical Support will support plant operations through maintenance and repairs of electrical systems, instrumentation, controls, and equipment. This full-time hourly position is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintain equipment controlling boilers, compressors, pumps, and other plant systems.
  2. Assist with cleaning, inspection, testing, repair, and calibration of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic control systems, including temperature and pressure instruments, gauges, flow transmitters, switches, solenoids, and control valves.
  3. Assist in repairing and modifying control circuitry, installing and programming electronic instruments, sensing elements, wiring, tubing, and fittings, and repairing electrical power switching equipment.
  4. Test, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical power distribution circuits.
  5. Remove, install, clean, and repair motors, circuit breakers, transformers; create and update diagrams and plans for electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls and instruments.
  6. Install, maintain, and calibrate computerized controls, instruments, and PLCs.
  7. Work overtime as needed to support plant operations.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience as an Electrician in maintenance and repair within a central plant, power plant, or similar setting, or training through a Trade School or Naval Electrician program.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures and Lock-Out-Tag-Out protocols.
  • Ability to read electrical and control diagrams and interpret manuals and drawings.
  • Experience with three-phase industrial electrical distribution systems or equivalent training.
Qualifications

Technical or trade school degree in electrical controls, electronics, computer science, or relevant industry training and experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Complete pre-employment screenings, including physical exam, respirator fit test, and drug testing.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Capable of walking, standing, lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Tolerance for heat in industrial environments.
