Plant Human Resources Manager

The Sr Plant HR Manager, reporting to the Associate Director, Human Resources - IPP, handles employee relations at designated plant locations. Responsibilities include understanding and applying federal and state laws such as EEOC, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, COBRA, NLRB, among others, to mitigate legal risks and maintain non-union status where applicable. Conducts surveys on employee morale, wages, benefits, and employment issues, providing reports and recommendations to management.

This role involves working with management to communicate, train, coach, and assist employees to maintain morale. It may also include supporting local hourly recruitment, diversity hiring, employee tracking, and interviews. Advises on employee and management counseling regarding policies, procedures, legal requirements, performance, discipline, benefits, and restructuring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote plant culture, company values, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
  • Establish long-term HR goals and metrics for the plant.
  • Oversee training and development programs for plant personnel.
  • Manage talent review and performance processes to foster accountability.
  • Plan succession for all plant positions, including interns and emerging leaders.
  • Support development planning for high-potential employees.
  • Implement employee recognition programs.
  • Engage in community relations activities.
  • Ensure plant compliance with Sonoco HR policies.

This position supports our Paper Mill facilities in Newport, TN. It is an onsite role with relocation benefits available per company policy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business with a focus on Human Resources.
  • Minimum of 7 years HR experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • SHRM CP or SCP Certification or HRCI SPHR or PHR (preferred).
  • Union experience highly preferred.

Compensation:

Annual base salary ranges from $113,280 to $127,440, plus a target bonus of 7.5% of the base salary.
