Job summary

The County of Hawai‘i's Planning Department seeks a Land Use Plans Checker II to review architectural, cadastral and subdivision plans for conformance with the Zoning Code and related laws. You will examine plans and applications, determine setbacks, heights, and other requirements, and approve permits as authorized.

The position in Hilo is full-time and permanent, with a career ladder toward Land Use Plans Checker III.

Qualifications

Read, understand, interpret and apply various laws, ordinances, rules and regulations pertinent to county planning activities.
Read construction plans and maps.
Make accurate arithmetic computations.
Deal courteously with the public; work harmoniously with others.

Responsibilities

Receives architectural and cadastral plans, building permit and sign applications, and subdivision and zoning applications over the counter.
Checks applications for accuracy and completeness of information; reviews plans and applications for conformance to county planning ordinances.
Examines plans to determine setbacks, height, usage, floor area and other requirements for Zoning Code compliance.
Upon completion of review, approves as authorized.
Maintains records of subdivision and planning permit files.
Assists in the review and processing of complex plans and specifications.
